The XV annual conference of ISCCP was held at Hyderabad on the 6th and 7th of May 2023, in association with FehmiCare Hospital, Yousufguda, Hyderabad. The theme of the conference was chosen as “Cervical Cancer Elimination – Advocacy to Action”.

The venue of the conference was NI-MSME, a central government institute with large auditorium, lecture halls, vast green campus, facilities for accommodation of faculty and delegates with spacious dining areas.

ISCCPCON 2023 was awarded 4 credit points by the TSMC.

6th May 2023 workshops, Panel, Debates and SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM

The conference was well attended by more than 250 delegates and 110 faculty from all over India and neighboring country Bangladesh. Dr R Shankarnarayanan, Pioneer in cervical cancer prevention attended and delivered two lectures on the subject. The luminaries were many eminent gynaecologists like Dr Vijay Zutshi, Dr Saritha Shamsunder, Dr G S Jyothi, Dr Bhagyalakshmi, Dr. Sunitha Mallik, Dr Uma Singh, Dr Sweta Balani, Dr Asha Jain, Dr Mala Dr Jeena, Dr Mamta Dagar, Dr Rama and others came from various parts of India and enthralled the delegates with their knowledge and experience. It was a treat for the knowledge seeking gynaecologists.

In workshop 1, basic colposcopy was the theme and related topics like nomenclature, normal and abnormal colposcopy, etc were explained in detail.

In workshop 2, various procedures like thermal coagulation, cold coagulation LEEP, Conization etc were taught.

Workshop 3 was very interesting: a team of pathologists took an active part and explained the various aspects of cytology, cervical biopsy, immunohistochemistry, HPV, etc, with interesting case scenarios. It was well attended by Pathologists and Gynaecologists. The stalwarts of pathology Prof Swarnalatha, Dr Ramana Murthy, Dr Meenakshi Swain, Dr Satish, Dr. Milap Shah, Dr Tejal Modi, Dr. Jaweria Masood, Dr. Sonali S Nayak made it a unique workshop of Gynaecologists and Pathologists on one platform.

In Workshop 4, various practical pathways to be adopted for cervical cancer elimination were discussed. It was followed by public forum moderated by Dr. Sheela Mane. It covered subjects of public awareness involving the NGOs, Govt and private sector in cervical cancer elimination. This workshop was attended by doctors from public and private sector, Paramedical staff, NGO representatives and media.

1st day afternoon, from 2 pm onwards, the SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM consisted of lectures, panel discussion and debates. The topics chosen were well appreciated by delegates. A quiz competition on the subject of cervical cancer prevention, elimination and treatment was held for PG students who participated with great enthusiasm.

There were three intense debates with on burning topics which created interest in the attendees.

The SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM on first day was followed by general body meeting of ISCCP members. The first day concluded with a cultural program and dinner.

7th May 2023: Free papers, posters, SCIENTIFIC PROGRAM, Inauguration, Oration, Guest lectures, Panel Discussion and prize distribution

Free-paper presentations and poster competition were held in the morning of 2nd day and evaluated by senior gynaecologists as judges.

The main conference was on the second day, 7th of May 2023. Dedicated lectures, panel discussion and management strategies of precancerous lesions of cervix enlightened the delegates. Professor Sankaranarayanan delivered a talk as guest of honor on elimination of cervical cancer from a practitioner’s perspective. And he also a delivered a talk on perspective on future of colposcopy. The delegates were very impressed with his depth of knowledge and felt benefited.

The S K Das Memorial Oration was delivered by Dr. Theresa Freeman, UK (Virtually by Zoom) with a clear message on the theme of the conference. The oration was immediately followed by virtual message from Dr Hrishikesh Pai President of FOGSI, Mumbai.

The inaugural function was held from 12:30pm to 1:30pm. Mrs. Sandhya Rani, IAS, Commissioner of GHMC graced the occasion. A souvenir with articles from the faculty was released. Dr. Leela Digumarti, President, ISCCP, Dr L Fahmida Banu, the Organising Chairperson and Dr. Shantha Kumari, President OGSH, Dr Naseem Tofail from Bangladesh delivered their messages.

Dr Swaraj Batra Senior gynaecologist and the ISCCP Founder President was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for her contributions to the cause of cervical cancer elimination and was felicitated.

Then Scientific Program continued with various interesting panel discussions moderated by Dr. Priya Ganesh Kumar and Dr. Shalini Rajaram as moderators. were very appreciated by the attendees.

The trade exhibition was held during the two days of conference. Different colposcopes – portable, handheld and with AI artificial intelligence, equipment for thermal ablation and cryotherapy, HPV kits, etc., were displayed.

The conference concluded with valedictory function and prize distribution for free-papers, poster presentation and quiz. The foot-soldiers who worked for the success of the conference were duly acknowledged. All the delegates and faculty carried home fond memories of conference and the hospitality.
